Paintings

A collection of self-initiated and warm-up paintings.

Dandelion Fluff – 2021

12″ x 12″ Acrylic and Puffy Paint on Canvas

This project was a quick warm-up painting to experiement with overlaying elements and creating a background with less blended parts.

Feather Collection – 2021

48″ x 24″ Acrylic, Wall Putty and Metal Leaf on Canvas

This painting was a custom commission for a living room. I used wall putty as a cheap alternative to gel medium so I could include a 3-D texture in the feathers, and I created this composition to match with the blue, maroon, and beige theme of the client’s living room. The metal leaf added some accents that coordinated with the living room decorations, and allowed for greater cohesiveness within the room.

Watercolor Study 1 – 2022

5″ x 7″ Watercolor on Watercolor Paper

This is the second part of my watercolor studies, where I chose a reference image of two birds sitting on a branch. Here, I continued exploring how to create textures using only watercolor and the different vibrancies of watercolors.

Memory Lane – 2020

9″ x 12″ Oil on Canvas

I created this oil painting based on another painting that I found online as an exercise on perspective and differentiating foreground from background. I also learned more about the techniques that are best for using oil paint.

Lotus Lake – 2020

12″ x 12″ Acrylic and Gel Medium on Canvas

This was a study on the usage of palette knifes and gel medium as a 3-dimensional element within paintings. At the beginning of this painting, I found palette knives extremely difficult to use, as it was a new tool, but towards the end of the painting, I began to enjoy the aesthetic and texture that the palette knife allowed me to achieve.

Oil Paint Study – 2020

5″ x 7″ Oil on Canvas

This was a study in oil paint where I used a brush to mimic the texture of a palette knife. I learned how to convey perspective and proportion through oil paint, and I also learned about reflections as portrayed in color.

India Ink Study – 2022

4″ x 4″ India Ink on Watercolor Paper

This painting was a study on India ink when used like watercolor, as it was a new medium for me at the time. I chose a painting I liked from online and used it as a reference to work with India Ink and learn more about the best practices for this medium.

Watercolor Study 2 – 2022

5″ x 7″ Watercolor on Watercolor Paper

This is part one of my watercolor studies. Watercolor has always seemed like a difficult medium for me to work with, so I took some time to work with it and learn more about how I would like to use it, as well the limitations and capabilities of the medium. For this one, I chose to use a reference picture of a stack of macarons.

Arabesque – 2021

8.5″ x 11″ Acrylic and Wall Putty on Canvas

This painting was created by one of my students as an exercise on 3-dimensional painting and composition. She used Acrylic paint for the majority of the painting and then included wall putty for a 3-D element in the dress of the ballerina.

Dripping Roses – 2020

12″ x 12″ Acrylic and Wall Putty on Canvas

This painting was a warm-up painting exploring the used of wall putty as a 3-dimensional medium. I experimented with mixing acrylic paint into the putty and also with painting over the putty. I discovered that the vibrancy of the acrylic paint changes through mixing in the wall putty, so I developed a preference for painting over the putty.

Madhubani Peacock – 2020

36″ x 12″ Acrylic on Canvas

This painting is based in the Indian art form known as Madhubani. It originates from the Northern part of India and is characterized by detailed depictions of peacocks, cows, birds, and Lord Krishna with his consort, Radha. This painting was one of the most detailed that I have ever made, in which I used fine permanent markers to create intricate details in the peacock, leaves, and tree trunk.
